American Sign Language 1 - UC Approved
Grade level: 8th - 12th grade (Two Semesters)
Pre-requisite: None
Course description: In this course, students will develop ASL (American Sign Language) receptive and expressive skills as well as conversational skills such as turn taking. Students will understand basic ASL linguistics and produce ASL sentences using correct grammatical features. Students will learn and use classifiers to support ASL structure. Students will also gain appreciation for and knowledge of the hearing impaired culture.
French 1 – UC Approved
Grade level: 8th – 12th grade (Two Semesters)

Course description: This first year language course will provide an introduction to the language and culture of the French speaking people. This course includes basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar construction using the present tense and the passé compose. A comparison of French and English is made through translations and readings. Oral communication is emphasized as well as written communication. Students acquire basic skills in listening, speaking, writing, and reading. They grasp essential grammar, concentrate on verb structure, and develop a French vocabulary.
Spanish 1 – UC Approved
Grade level: 8th – 12th grade (Two Semesters)
Pre-requisite: None
Course description: This first year language course will provide students the opportunity to develop a grasp of the Spanish language through practice in basic conversational skills and basic reading and writing exercises. It is the constant objective of Spanish I to give a solid base for later fluency in the language. Students acquire basic skills in listening, speaking, writing, and reading. They grasp essential grammar, concentrate on verb structure, and develop a Spanish vocabulary.
