Community Service Day Helps Students Reach Out to San Diegans in Need
On October 11th, Jr. High students, teachers, and parent chaperones invested a day to serve a variety of local organizations including the Center for the Blind, Brother Bennos, Solutions for Change, Reins, San Diego Food Bank, Green Oak Ranch Ministries, Bread of Life and Vista Knoll. Community Service Day coordinator, parent Nicole Lesher, is in her second year of organizing this opportunity that provides students a platform to implement their gifts in a manner in which God has uniquely created for them “to do good works.”
Bible Teacher Jilane Hawkins has played a key role in working with the students to assess their spiritual gifts and then assigned them to an organization accordingly. From sorting food, babysitting small children, landscaping, assisting with classes for blind students, visiting with seniors (playing cards, painting nails, and singing) to painting, TCCS Jr. High students are making a difference.
