steerKenney’s Steer Makes Grand Champion at the San Diego County Fair

It’s not every day a seventh grader is mentioned in an issue of the Fortune 500 Magazine. But that’s just what happened this summer for Tri-City Christian’s Morganne Kenney. The determined seventh grader took her steer to the San Diego County Fair and won 4H Champion of her class. This was only Morganne’s second year in 4H and she raised both a steer and a lamb that she showed at this past summer’s county fair. “Raising a steer (Duke) was an unbelievable experience. Though it gave me many bumps and bruises I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It taught me to care for something other than me and that all living animals deserve respect,” Morganne said of her experience.

The love for Future Farmer’s of America (FFA) apparently runs deep in the Kenney family. Morganne’s little brother Matthew also showed his lamb at the San Diego County Fair alongside Morganne’s lamb. And Morganne’s big sister Mikaela raised a lamb which she sold at the fair.  Morganne’s advice to those pursuing their dreams: “If you fail, keep trying and always remember God is for you, not against you.” These are words of wisdom indeed, from this budding Future Farmer of America.
